Splitting force, cycle time and log size

A 20-tonne splitter handles most firewood up to about 500 mm diameter. Hardwood, knotty or larger logs call for 28 to 40 tonnes. Vertical splitters let the user split heavy rounds without lifting them onto a beam.

Cycle time decides productivity: hydraulic models work in 7 to 24 seconds, while the kinetic splitter uses a flywheel to split in about 3 seconds. For small branches, a branch logger cuts firewood pieces automatically.

Typical uses

  • Firewood production
  • Farms and rural properties
  • Forestry and tree work
  • Rental fleets
  • Biomass and stove fuel

What to check before ordering

  • Splitting force (tonnes) for your customers’ wood
  • Horizontal, vertical or kinetic
  • Maximum log diameter and length
  • Road towing kit and wheels

Log splitters: frequently asked questions

What splitting force do I need?

20 tonnes covers most firewood; choose 28 to 40 tonnes for hardwood, knotty logs or professional use.

What is a kinetic log splitter?

A splitter driven by a flywheel instead of a slow hydraulic cylinder. It splits in about 3 seconds per cycle, ideal for high volumes.

What is a branch logger?

A machine with feed rollers and blades that cuts branches of 63–100 mm into firewood pieces of 127–254 mm.
